Behaviour of a Sacrificial Cladding with Foam Concrete-Filled Square Tubes under Impact Loads

In this paper, a new sacrificial cladding with foam concrete-filled square tubes (FCFST cladding) was developed for dissipating impact energy. The experiment conducted on the FCFST claddings using drop hammer system, and finite element simulation analysis performed explicit nonlinear program LS-DYNA. deformation modes, force–displacement responses energy absorption performances of were discussed. results indicated that could be classified into four stages, performance enhanced by increasing contact area between impactor. Foam underwent obvious plastic dissipated more than other parts cladding, three modes identified in theses tubes. Furthermore, effects thickness ratio top plate to tube, width-to-thickness tube location behaviour numerically studied. It found decreasing enhance cladding.
